It's hard to believe that the holiday season is already upon us! As you all know, new Covid safety measures are currently in place, and due to this we are once again compelled to CANCEL our scheduled (December 12th) pick up. In lieu of our pickup day, we are asking you to drop off your filled bag directly to the food bank. The good news? You're all already pros at this! Between now and December 12th, we hope to fill up the shelves of the food bank like we normally would on our pick up day.
Following are important details about the Drop Off:
The Salvation Army food bank (TSA) has a cart right outside their front office door for drop offs. They're located at 3001 R Avenue, and their office hours are Mon - Thurs, 9am-4pm (closed 12-1pm for lunch). To avoid bags being left outside overnight, please do not drop off after hours.
You may use either your red bag OR disposable bags. If dropping off your red bag, please be sure to grab a replacement bag; a supply is located in a basket just inside TSA's lobby. If you're more comfortable dropping off your donation in disposable bags instead, please label them with "ASG."
Is your bag ready to go now? If so, please drop it off at your earliest convenience -- no need to wait until December! Bags will be accepted whether they're early or late.
If you would prefer to make a monetary donation, you may do so online at https://a-simple-gesture-anacortes.square.site, or by mailing a check payable to A Simple Gesture-Anacortes, P.O. Box 1413, Anacortes, WA 98221. Monetary donations will be used to purchase food to keep our Red Bag Pantries stocked, fill in any gaps at the food bank, and provide meats for local organizations that provide holiday meals for those in need.
Current Food Shortages: Spaghetti sauce, jam/jelly, mac & cheese, soups/stews. (Please note, the food bank still has plenty of the following, and does NOT NEED: Tuna, peanut butter, top ramen.) Special Request: **Please remember these are EXTRA items to add to your bag should you choose. Otherwise, please focus on food shortages.** December's special request is holiday foods, specifically stuffing, evaporated milk, cream of mushroom soup, olives, instant mashed potatoes. For anyone interested in providing Christmas gifts for kids in need, TSA also has their "Angel Tree" tags taped up on their front office window behind the drop off cart. To choose a tag, you may either knock on the office door or call 360-293-6682, and they can bring it out to you. What a year. We are thankful for each and every one of you, and how your compassion and generosity have been a bright light during these past months. We will provide updates regarding this Drop Off as needed. In the meantime, please let us know should you have any questions.
